Taekwondo Forms (Poomsae): Fighting an Imaginary Opponent
A Form (known as Poomsae or Tegeuk in Korean) is a choreographed sequence of martial arts movements. Think of it like a textbook of defensive and offensive techniques put into motion, or a structured routine that simulates a battle against one or more imaginary attackers.
Every time you move up to a new belt level, you will learn a completely new, more challenging form.
Why Do We Practice Forms?
Muscle Memory: Forms combine specific blocks, punches, stances, and kicks in a precise order, hardwiring proper technique into your body.
Balance and Control: Moving smoothly from a deep stance to a high kick teaches you how to control your center of gravity.
Perfect Practice: Because you are practicing solo, you can focus 100% on your own alignment, breathing, and power without the distraction of a live opponent.
